Meet Our Team
"We are forever known by the footsteps we leave behind."
Established in 1991 by a small group of wildlife lovers, Northeast Kansas Wildlife Rescue cares for more than 2,500 wild animals each year in Shawnee, Douglas, Jefferson, Wabaunsee, Osage, Nemaha, Jackson, Marshall and Brown Counties in Kansas.
Northeast Kansas Wildlife Rescue Group is made up of 100% volunteers who are as diverse as the wildlife we care for. Our volunteers come from all walks of life (business professionals, educators etc.) and work in many areas such as the hotline, as a transporter or licensed certified wildlife rehabilitator.

NEKSWR does not receive any local, state or federal funding and wildlife do not have access to health insurance. It is only through the generous support of individuals and businesses that we continue our mission. The group also manages a wildlife hotline that is sponsored by West Star Energy. The hotline is checked seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Team Facts:

  • * NEKSWR is made up of 100% volunteers. They receive NO compensation for their time, travel or rehabilitation expenses.

  • * NEKSWR certified wildlife rehabilitators understand the importance of continuing education. We work hard to ensure our team is trained and prepared to handle any wildlife emergency through IWRC coursework.

  • * Unlike other wildlife rescue groups, we do not "charge" for our services.

  • * We partner with area veterinarians to provide the best possible care and in turn, they provide drop off locations for the public.

  • * NEKSWR is audited each year by the state and federal goverment. providing medical records for every animal we touch.
